San Jose HR in 11th sinks Modesto Nuts

— After five fruitless trips to the plate, San Jose's Brock Bond finally delivered.

The designated hitter hit a two-out, two-run homer off Modesto Nuts right-hander Nelson Gonzalez in the bottom of the 11th, giving the Giants a 5-3 win over the Modesto Nuts on Wednesday at Municipal Stadium.

With the victory, San Jose has a 4½ game lead over Visalia in the California League's North Division, with four games to play in the first half. At presstime, the Rawhide were leading Bakersfield.

Nuts catcher Ryan Casteel went 2-for-5 with a homer, double and 2 RBIs. His solo shot in the sixth tied the game 3-3.

Modesto returns home today where it will take on Bakersfield in a 7:05 p.m. contest at John Thurman Field.
