Unplugged fest hits downtown

The acoustic/folk Unplugged Festival will be held June 21 at venues in downtown Modesto, with more than 40 acts made up of both national players and local favorites.

The sounds of bluegrass, Americana, old-time country, swing, gypsy, folk, anti-folk, orchestral folk, acoustic pop/rock, Irish/traditional, roots, blues, vintage ukulele tunes and more will be represented.

The schedule:• June 21: Opening-night show at Cafe Deva, 1202 J St. Artists include The Thoughts, Jackie Bristow, Fox & Woman, D. Henry Fenton, Boscoe's Brood and Alida McKeon.6 p.m. Tickets $10 at the door. All-ages show.

• June 22: Acoustic rock at Theater 417, 417 Seventh St. Artists The Hot Dark, Of Us Giants, Indian Runner, Country and Wolves, Evan Middlesworth, She Killed Kurt. 4 p.m. $10 at the door. Age 18 and older.

• June 23: Theater 417. Artists Dear Indugu, Deborah Crooks, The Dustbowl Children, Lino Alibani, Brandon Sutton featuring Victoria Sutton Krippner. 2 p.m. $10 at the door. Age 18 and older.

• June 26: Barkin' Dog Grill, 940 11th St. Artists Maria Quiles and Rory Cloud, Birdsong At Morning, The Rusty String Express. 7:30 p.m. $5 at the door. All-ages show.

• June 28: Cafe Deva. Professor Burns & The Lilac Field, Katie Hell, The Goat and The Feather, Derek Yager, Ryan David Orr. 6 p.m. $10 at the door. All-ages show.

• June 29: Centerpiece showcase at Center Stage Conservatory, 948 11th St. Bay Area string group Dirty Cello, songwriter Jen Hajj, Mark Lemaire & Twilight, Jill Cohn, King Harobed, Al Medina, Jeremy Penick, Helene Renaut, The Airlings, Rainy Escobar.2 to 10 p.m. $15 advance, $20 at door. All-ages show.

• June 30: Closing-day showcase at Center Stage. The (Secret) Hitchers, electric ukulele rockers Bourbon Legend, songwriters Rob Larkin and Patrice Webb, Colorado Road, Apis Malifera, Patty Castillo Davis, Dandelion Massacre, William Morebeck.2 to 10 p.m. $15 advance, $20 at door. All-ages show.
