Bonales stays hot in JGANC Match Play

June 11, 2013

— The 36th Junior Golf Association of Northern California Match Play Championship already has produced a few thrills.

And there are still days left at Ripon's Spring Creek Country Club in the JGANC's flagship tournament.

To qualify for the boys championship match-play bracket, players had to shoot no higher than 74 on Monday. Making the grade, and winning their respective first-round matches on Tuesday, were Turlock's Teo Chiesa and Ceres' Anthony Bonales.

Bonales, who won The First Tee of Central Valley Junior last week by shooting a 69, continued his momentum with a 3 and 2 win over Sean Duckering. Chiesa stopped Travis Winn 6 and 4.

Modesto's Christopher Ebster, a championship flight qualifier at age 14, extended Hilmar's Landon Azevedo before he was beaten 2 and 1. Azevedo shot 3 under par.

Top-seeded Bradley Knox of Menlo Park, the stroke-play medalist after his 5-under 67, also advanced to today's second round.

Oakdale's Mabel Wong reached the second round with a 1-up win over Jacqueleine Ngo. Wong posted a 72 on Monday, one behind girls medalist Amanjoty Sangha of San Mateo.

Beyer High senior Matt Mensinger enjoyed a 2-up win over Matt Cutcliffe in the boys 16-17 flight.Results. Page C-5
