The Vanessa Brown Homes PBA West Regional Tournament is gearing up for its eighth run at Yosemite Lanes. This year's event is the weekend of July 5-7.
Pros will be shoeing up Saturday morning for the qualifying rounds, and the top bowlers will return Sunday for the final rounds. Pro-Ams are running with the event on July 5 at 3:30 p.m., and July 6 at 7:30 p.m.
The sweepers are divided into three divisions: Senior, adult and junior, each with its own prize fund. Senior division entries pay $25 to vie for a first-place prize of $250. The adult division entry fee is $40 with a $350 first-place prize and the junior division will cost $20 for a chance to earn $100 in scholarship money. Entries are available at both bowling centers. The Scratch 6-Gamer is at Yosemite on Sunday starting at noon. Bowlers will compete on the PBA Dick Weber oil pattern. Check in begins at 11 a.m. Along with prize money, the winners get a berth in the year-end Tournament of Champions.
Two no-tap events will be Friday. The Ladies Luncheon No-Tap for trio teams is at Yosemite at 9:30 a.m. The Doubles No-Tap Tournament starts at McHenry at 1 p.m. Doubles teams can be men, women or mixed. Bring a partner or come by yourself and be placed with someone. Check-in is at 12:30.
Only three Bonus weekends remain in the Peach Classic at McHenry through July 28. Bonus weekends pay $100 for high handicap series and $50 for second high each day. Bowlers may bowl up to four times, and if they bowl at least twice they qualify for the 10-game Prize List. Squads are at noon, 2:30 p.m., and 5 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. The Anytime Handicap Doubles Tournament is running at Yosemite through the summer. Bowl anytime lanes are available. Doubles teams can be men, women or mixed, plus a century division (combined age of 100), and each has its own prize list. Call 524-9161.
Entries are open for the California State Youth Committee's Adult/Youth Doubles Tournament. The statewide scholarship tourney is the weekend of June 29-30. The District 4 competition will be at McHenry Bowl with squads are 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. Sunday. There are three divisions, including for handicaps and a scratch division. Bowlers may bowl up to four times, but can only place once with the same partner.
