TWEEN CRAFT AND PAPER AIRPLANE DERBY

When: Today, 1 p.m.

Where: Modesto Library, 1500 I Street

Info: Tweens and teens ages 9 through 18 can participate in an afternoon of fun. During this t(w)een event, participants can make paper airplanes, test paper airplanes in derby races, and learn tactics and teamwork while playing fun Wii games. Participating in this program provides teens and tweens with the opportunity to interact with their peers, be creative with various crafts, and learn about the wonderful programs the Stanislaus County Library offers. BACKPACK DRIVE

Info: The Latino Community Roundtable of Stanislaus County presents their annual

Backpack Drive. Backpack donation drop off locations are: Modesto City Schools Distict Office, 426 Locust St., West Modesto; King Kennedy Memorial Center, 601 S. Martin Luther King Dr., West Modesto; Familia Juarez Restaurant, 617 Paradise Rd., West Modesto; Boy Scouts of America, 4031 Technology Dr., North Modesto: Health Net, 1940 Crows Landing Rd., Suite 10, in South Modesto. Backpack giveaway days will be Wednesday July 31 at King Kennedy Memorial Center and August 4 at 6 p.m. at Ceres Drive-In Flea Market. Pre-registration required to receive a backpack. CANCER SURVIVORSHIP CONFERENCE

Where: Sutter Health Education and Conference Center, McHenry Village

Info: Memorial Medical Center Cancer Services is presenting its first annual Cancer Survivorship Conference as a new way to celebrate survivorship in our community. Free event will feature keynote speakers and discussion topics on nutrition, clinical trials, complementary therapies, and more. PERSONAL SAFETY WORKSHOP

Info: The DelWood Neighborhood Alliance is presenting a Personal Safety Workshop. Participants will learn about personal and physical security measures. Guest speaker from law enforcement field. Bring a lawn chair, friend and dish to share for potluck. $1 suggested donation. All are welcome.

Info: Lancaster Painting and the Delta Blood bank are holding a community blood drive. Delta Blood Bank's mobile bus will be on hand to accept donations. Appointments every 15 mins. Merced

POOL PARTY

When: Thursday, noon - 6 p.m.

Where: McNamara Pool, McNamara Park, 1040 Canal Street

Info: The City of Merced is partnering with the Central Valley Red Cross to host a pool party celebrating the opening of the pool for the summer season. Swimming will be free, with the cost being paid for by the Red Cross. The party begins with a free hot dog feed at noon and the pool will be open from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. There will also be a Community Fair that afternoon, with an extra emphasis on pool and water safety. Information booths set up and activities available for kids. The Merced Fire Department will have an engine on display and the City will have its plans there to show how the park will be renovated. A number of other groups and organizations will also have booths at the event. The pool will be continue to be open for recreation swimming the rest of the summer from 3 to 6 p.m. Thursdays through Sundays. The last day of swimming will be Aug. 11.
