Oakdale's Nick Vander Tuig, a junior pitcher at UCLA, was taken by the San Francisco Giants in the sixth round on Friday, the second day of Major League Baseball's first-year player draft.

Vander Tuig, a 6-foot-3, 195-pound right-hander, was the 192nd player taken overall.

The Oakdale High graduate is 11-4 with a 2.51 ERA for the Bruins this season. Vander Tuig has racked up a team-leading 77 strikeouts while allowing just 17 walks — seventh fewest in the Pac-12 — in 107 2/3 innings.

He is currently tied for fifth on UCLA's all-time wins list with 24 career victories.
