— The California Highway Patrol on Sunday continued looking for the driver of a vehicle that struck a bicyclist and left before authorities arrived at the crash site Saturday evening just east of Riverbank.

Authorities had not released the name of the bicyclist from Modesto, who died from his injuries. The CHP said he was riding a specialized bike and wearing a helmet.

The crash occurred about 7:20 p.m. Saturday on Claribel Road, just east of McGee Avenue. The CHP said the vehicle and the bicyclist were heading west, and the bicyclist was in front.

It's unknown to the investigating officers how fast the vehicle was traveling. The CHP said the vehicle's front end hit the back of the bicycle. It was unclear to the officers whether alcohol or drugs were a factor in the crash. There was no description of the vehicle or its driver.

Officers ask anyone with information about the crash to call the Modesto-area CHP at (209) 545-7440.
