Enochs High senior Faith Makau wraps up her brilliant career at her sport's summit — the 95th CIF State Track and Field Championships.

California's best track and field athletes, featuring 10 from the Stanislaus District, will compete at Buchanan High's Veterans Memorial Stadium in Clovis. All share the same goal today — qualify for Saturday night's finals.

Makau reached the 2012 final in the 1,600 meters and finished 11th. This year, her times have improved, resulting in an historic double in the 800 and 1,600 at last week's Sac-Joaquin Section meet at Elk Grove.

The Enochs star, the first girl to win the 800 and 1,600 Masters title in nine years, also won the 1,600 for the second straight year.

Makau leads the local list which accounted for five Masters titles last week. Other section winners include Oakdale junior Kyle Peterson in the discus, Oakdale freshman Hannah Chappell in the girls discus and Atwater senior Dallas Hoofard in the 300 hurdles.

To reach today, athletes placed in the top three in their respective events last week. Earning seconds were Modesto Christian's James Warwick in the 110 hurdles and Golden Valley pair Harman Purewal in the high jump and Ryan Pust in the pole vault.

Placing third were Weston Ranch's John McDonald in both the 100 and 200, Afolabi Olabode of Golden Valley in the shot put and Buhach Colony's Brandy Coward in the 400.

Action begins today with field events at 3 p.m. and running events at 5. Saturday's finals start with field events at 4:30 p.m. and running at 6.
