Ceres teams earn Solar Regatta honors

Ceres High School's Manufacturing Production and Green Technology Academy brought home four trophies and more from the second annual SMUD Solar Regatta May 17 at Rancho Seco Recreation Area in Herald. The Ceres High School junior class clinched first place in the Endurance Race while the CHS Senior class tied for second. Boaters raced in three events using the sun's power.

Additionally, Ceres High's junior team was selected to represent the SMUD Solar Regatta at Big Wake Weekend June 1-2 at Folsom Lake near Sacramento.

Modestan to receive Builders' scholarship

Tiana Coburn of Modesto is one of four recipients of the 2013 June Simmons Memorial Scholarship Competition.

Winners will receive a grant to further their college education, with this year's grants totaling $10,000. Other winners include Natalie Tomasello of Morgan Hill; Lakshmi Vijanderan of Dublin; and Joel Scianna of Morgan Hill.

The scholarship is offered by the Builders' Exchange of Santa Clara County, which was created in 1893 as a nonprofit association of subcontractors, general contractors, architects, engineers, material suppliers, manufacturers representatives and others involved in the construction industry. The June Simmons Memorial Scholarship Competition is for the member companies of the Builders' Exchange, their employees and their families. Winners will be honored at a reception at 3 p.m. June 21 at the Builders' Exchange.
