SOCIETY FOR HANDICAPPED CHILDREN AND ADULTS: Day on the Farm, June 22NEEDED: Volunteers 15 and older to assist and encourage children and serve as "buddies" with various activities throughout the farm. The event introduces children with disabilities, ages 4 to 17 and kids at heart, to activities typically seen on a working ranch, including horseback riding, hayrides, planting in the garden, arts and crafts, a petting zoo and a barbecue cookout. Additional help is needed at each activity station. Volunteers will receive an orientation from 8 to 9 a.m., help with setup, interact with their buddies 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and assist with cleanup. Experience with working around farm animals is helpful, but not necessary. All volunteers must complete an application, and volunteers over age 18 must pass a background check. The event takes place at the Jim Sanchez Ranch in Oakdale from 8 a.m. to 2p.m.

COMMUNITY HOSPICE & HOSPICE OF SAN JOAQUIN: 11th Annual Truckin' for Hospice Motorcycle & Car Rally, July 20NEEDED: Volunteers 16 and older to assist with cleanup removing tables, chairs, tents, and such at 2:30 p.m. Presented by the California Trucking Association, this motorcycle, car rally, antique and working truck show starts in Stockton, then travels through the Mother Lode with stops along the 135-mile ride for refreshments, poker and a chance to win great prizes. It concludes with a barbecue, live music and raffle drawing in Manteca.

CENTER FOR HUMAN SERVICESNEEDED: Volunteers age 13 to 17 are needed to serve as defense and prosecution attorneys, jury members, bailiffs and court clerks. The Youth Court process offers first-time juvenile defendants who have admitted responsibility for their offense an opportunity to have their case heard by a jury of their peers with an adult volunteer judge experienced in juvenile law presiding. Adult volunteers 18 and older who are knowledgeable about the law are needed to act as judges to preside over the court and serve as mentors to assist volunteer attorneys with trial preparation.

INTER-FAITH MINISTRIESNEEDED: Volunteers 18 and older are needed to help provide food and clothing to needy individuals and families weekdays. Warehouse volunteers pick up, receive, sort, and distribute food to clients; food pantry volunteers interview clients, offer support and referrals, bag grocery orders, and stock shelves; clothing closet volunteers sort clothing and assist in the community clothes closet. Volunteers are needed Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., depending on the volunteer position. Volunteers must be at least 18 years old, or 16 to 17 when accompanied by an adult, and be able to lift at least 25 to 40 pounds.

STANISLAUS ANIMAL SERVICES AGENCYNEEDED: Volunteers 16 and older are needed to socialize, exercise, and care for adoptable animals, and assist the public with adoptions at the shelter. Flexible shifts are available Monday through Saturday between 9 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Foster Care volunteers provide a nurturing home for kittens and-or puppies until they are ready for adoption. All volunteers must have basic knowledge of animal care and experience handling animals, complete an application process and attend the next orientation, which is scheduled for May 15 at 5:30 p.m.
