Volunteers are needed for these special events:

• SOCIETY FOR HANDICAPPED CHILDREN AND ADULTS: Day on the Farm, June 22NEEDED: Volunteers 15 and older to assist and encourage children and serve as "buddies" with various activities throughout the farm. The event introduces children with disabilities, ages 4 to 17 — and kids at heart, to activities typically seen on a working ranch, including horseback riding, hayrides, planting in the garden, arts and crafts, a petting zoo and a barbecue cookout. Additional help is needed at each activity station. Volunteers will receive an orientation from 8 to 9 a.m., help with setup, interact with their buddies 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and assist with cleanup. Experience with working around farm animals is helpful, but not necessary. All volunteers must complete an application, and volunteers over age 18 must pass a background check. The event takes place at the Jim Sanchez Ranch in Oakdale from 8 a.m. to 2p.m.
