Red Shield benefit returns Tuesday to Modesto

local@modbee.comMay 24, 2013

— Get out your dollar and get ready for Kids' Day on Tuesday. Volunteers will take to the streets in Modesto to sell special editions of The Bee for the 17th year in a row.

In that time, nearly $830,000 has been raised for The Salvation Army's Red Shield Center, a critical facility for at-risk boys and girls. When you see a hawker, pull over and part with a buck or two.

If you want to help out, contact the center at or (209) 538-7111.

And this year, for the first time, you can text a donation. Simply text "SHIELD" to 80888 and reply "YES" to confirm your $10 gift.

Modesto Bee is pleased to provide this opportunity to share information, experiences and observations about what's in the news. Some of the comments may be reprinted elsewhere in the site or in the newspaper. We encourage lively, open debate on the issues of the day, and ask that you refrain from profanity, hate speech, personal comments and remarks that are off point. Thank you for taking the time to offer your thoughts.
