MODESTO — Police will look for drunken drivers this Memorial Day weekend starting Saturday night with roving saturation patrols throughout Modesto. The patrols are made up of officers assigned to solely look for drivers under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
Modesto police also will conduct a sobriety checkpoint, which starts at 5 p.m. Monday at an undisclosed location in the city. Officers will be looking for drivers without valid licenses at the checkpoint.
Police said those arrested face jail time, loss of their licenses and increasing insurance rates, so plan ahead and designate a sober driver. The checkpoint and the patrols are funded by a grant from the state Office of Traffic Safety.
