Two seemingly disparate people hilariously come together for "Six Dance Lessons in Six Weeks" at the Sierra Repertory Theatre in Sonora later this month.

According to a press release, the comedy production from the foothills troupe brings together dance teacher Michael Minetti and elderly student Lily Harrison in her Florida coast high rise.

From the onset, the two clash as the uptight and suspicious student deals with the glib former Broadway dancer who blurts out jokes and insults.

Through the course of their dance lessons, however, the pair form an unlikely friendship and find a common language in the music.

Written by American playwright Richard Alfieri, the show has found international success since its 2001 Los Angeles premiere and Broadway opening in 2003. It's been translated into 12 languages and has had more than 50 productions in 20 countries.

SRT artistic director Scott Viets will direct the production, which stars troupe veteran Becky Saunders as Lily and Los Angeles actor Sean Galuszka as Michael. Saunders and Galuszka have performed the show in the past, in Sacramento and Palm Springs, respectively.

The production is rated R, with language and adult topics not suited for children.

"Six Dance Lessons in Six Weeks" runs May 31-June 23 at SRT's East Sonora Theatre.

A talk-back discussion with the cast will be held after a June 13 performance.
