Modesto's Featherston continues to wield hot bat for Nuts

May 21, 2013

— The Modesto Nuts halted a three-game losing streak with a 7-2 win over the Visalia Rawhide, thanks in part to the hot hitting of second baseman Taylor Featherston.

Featherston, who homered in the first inning to give the Nuts a 2-0 lead they never would relinquish, was 2-for-4 with three RBIs in the game. Over his last eight games, Featherston is batting .414 with 15 RBIs. He now has four homers and raised his average to .301 on the season.

Featherston's homer helped make a winner out of stater Tyler Gagnon, who pitched five strong innings, scattering seven hits while fanning six to even his record at 3-3. He walked one and allowed one earned run.

Tim Smalling was 3-for-5 for Modesto, while Ryan Casteel had two hits.

After an off day today, the Nuts begin a seven-game road trip, with four games in Lake Elsinore before a three-game set in Visalia.
