Ripon crash kills Riverbank man

May 18, 2013

— A Riverbank man was killed in a two-car crash that occurred shortly after 11:15 a.m. Friday in Ripon, authorities said.

According to the California Highway Patrol, Juan Vega, 53, of Modesto and an unidentified passenger were traveling east on Louise Avenue when they stopped for unknown reasons. After stopping, Vega's vehicle continued across Jack Tone Road, directly into the path of a vehicle driven by Ceasar Monroy, 41, of Stockton, who was traveling north on Jack Tone Road, officers said.

Monroy's vehicle struck the right side of Vega's vehicle, killing the passenger, a Riverbank resident, police said. Vega was taken to a hospital in Modesto with major injuries, authorities said.

An investigation into the accident is ongoing. Alcohol and drugs were not a factor in the collision, officers said.
