The Denair Unified School District Board will gather Sunday afternoon for a training session, and Monday evening interim Superintendent Walt Hanline will host a community meeting.

Monday's session will be at 6 p.m. in the Denair Middle School Coyote Center. Parents and others can give their views and get an update on the state of the district. A second community meeting is scheduled for Aug. 12.

Sunday's 12:30 p.m. session will be in the district board room, 3460 Lester Road, Denair. Board members will work on team building and governance protocols after a closed-door discussion on negotiations with its unions.

The district is deficit-spending and must make more cuts to avoid a state takeover. Denair Unified Teachers Association President Barry Cole said the district declared an impasse. Cole said the district is asking teachers to take an 11 percent pay cut.
