MODESTO -- A two-alarm fire broke out Tuesday afternoon in the 1200 block of Rouse Avenue in Modesto, displacing seven people.

Burbank-Paradise Fire Protection District Assistant Chief Peter Golling said smoke and flames were coming from the attic when firefighters arrived about 3:15 p.m.

There were people at the house when it started, but all evacuated safely.

The fire caused an estimated $180,000 in damage and displaced a family, including four children ages 2 to 9, Golling said.

The cause is under investigation. Crews with the Ceres Fire Department, Westport Fire District and Modesto Regional Fire Authority assisted in fighting the fire.
