In regards to the ban on plastic bags by San Francisco and Alameda counties: Their primary complaint on the plastic bags is that they are single-use bags which are discarded after the groceries are brought home. I've seen many lunches carried in them, and how many dog walkers carry a supply of bags to use with their pets?
I've seen in Alameda County seniors in their 90s on fixed incomes having to buy bags at check out because they forgot their shopping bags. And as far as someone helping them out with the purchase, they just dump their 15 to 20 loose items in their arms or cart while thinking "don't trip, Granny," and send them out the door.
Finally, what happened to the slogan "save the trees," which was popular in our switch from paper to plastic?
