Columbia College hires new men's basketball coach

May 10, 2013

— Rob Hoyt, a Columbia College and Sonora High graduate, will replace Nate Rien — Hoyt's former coach — as the Claim Jumpers basketball coach.

Rien, the Columbia coach for the last 10 seasons, will become the school's athletic director.

Hoyt, 28, has worked as an assistant at Reedley College in 2007-'09 and Cabrillo under Tony Marcopulos from '09 through '13. Cabrillo was 78-33 and won three Coast Conference titles while Hoyt served on the staff.

Hoyt, a member of the Claim Jumper team in '04 and '05, becomes Columbia's ninth coach.
