Denair school board to vote on loan

— The board of the financially embattled Denair Unified School District will meet at 7:30 tonight in the district boardroom, 3460 Lester Road.

It is scheduled to hear a budget presentation by fiscal consultant Terry Ryland and vote on a resolution to authorize a cash flow loan from the Stanislaus County superintendent of schools of up to $1.25 million.

Denair Unified's desperate financial situation came to light in the fall, when overly optimistic enrollment projections failed to materialize and it became clear that the district did not have the funds to survive the year.

Since then, the board has laid off staff, cut salaries and fired its longtime superintendent.
