CERES — A driver is in the hospital with moderate injuries and his passenger was taken into custody after Ceres police said the two men led them on a brief pursuit Tuesday evening.
The incident began when an officer with the street crimes unit initiated a traffic stop at 7:25 p.m. near Ceres.
The vehicle, a Nissan Quest van, sped off. The roughly milelong chase went south on Musick Avenue, east on Nadine Avenue and then south on Richland Avenue.
Speeds reached in excess of 50 mph in the residential area before the driver lost control, crossed into the northbound lanes and struck a light pole. A gun was found in the van, police said.
Identities of the men, and information on possible charges, was not available.
