Support bill to ban horse slaughter

May 7, 2013

S.541-H.R. 1094, the SAFE Act, is a new bill before Congress that you should support. This bill will prohibit the slaughter of horses for human consumption in the U.S. and their export abroad for the same purpose. There is no humane method in the U.S. to slaughter horses; all inflict cruelty on them.

Horses are raised to be companions, competitors and work partners. They are routinely given medications and other substances that are toxic to humans and expressly forbidden by the FDA to be given to food animals. Enacting a ban is urgent. A New Mexico slaughterhouse is ready to begin slaughtering horses. Please contact your federal legislators asking them to co-sponsor the SAFE Act.
