Modesto man sent to federal prison over meth possession

A judge on Monday sentenced a 53-year-old Modesto man to 10 years and one month in federal prison for possessing methamphetamine with the intent to sell the drug, theU.S. attorney's office reported.

Federal prosecutors said Jose Olivera Zapien in June 2009 sold 55 grams of meth and 452.6 grams of marijuana to undercover agents.

After arranging to buy 1 pound of meth from Zapien on July 14, 2009, agents served a search warrant at his home and found about that amount of meth.
