The long plane flight is always a dreaded part of the trip. Especially for a man that is battling piriformis issues such as myself. The key is to get up as often as you can to stretch and walk around.
I was able to get about four hours of sleep on the plane during my normal sleeping hours. It is enough sleep to keep me up to my local bedtime in Rotterdam of 10 p.m.(2 p.m. Modesto time). The quicker I can get my sleeping schedule aligned with Holland time the quicker I can acclimate. That will be one less thing I have to battle on raceday. I think I will have my hands full running for a whole day.
After killing four hours in London's Heathrow Airport -- walking, stretching and eating -- I made my final one-hour trek from London to Rotterdam, the location for my first night's sleep.
I took a taxi from the airport and arrived to my hotel shortly after 9 p.m. local time. I dropped off my luggage in the room and almost immediately headed out for a run. Well, the pain is still there and after an easy six-mile run, my right hip and glute were very tight. It just leaves this ongoing doubt in my head, but I'm trying to keep the faith.
I will meet up with team in Burgen Op Zoom, an hour train ride away. And the first people I will see is Doc Lovy and his students in hopes to get this muscle tightness remedied by race day.
It is nearly 11 p.m. local time now and I am ready to head to bed and begin my journey to Team USA headquarters in Burgen Op Zoom.
