Modesto school celebrates 50-year anniversary

— Modesto's Catherine Everett Elementary School has a 50th anniversary celebration Thursday evening, in conjunction with its annual open house.

While many of the city's elementary schools were named for educators, this school, on Mount Vernon Drive, is named for a longtime community volunteer and PTA leader.

Of note, Everett was one of a number of campuses built in the 1960s, as home building and the population spread north of Briggsmore Avenue.

Also opening during the 1960s were Chrysler and Muncy elementary schools in the Stanislaus Union School District, Prescott Senior Elementary and Davis High School.
