Stanislaus roads to have Cinco De Mayo checkpoints

May 2, 2013

— Checkpoints and saturation patrols around Stanislaus County will be used to combat drunk driving this Cinco de Mayo weekend. A checkpoint will be held at an undisclosed location in Riverbank sometime during the weekend between 7 p.m. and 3 a.m.

In Modesto, there will be saturation patrols starting today at 10 p.m. and continuing until 3 a.m. There will be more saturation patrols Saturday and Sunday, also from 10 p.m. to 3 a.m. in areas with a high number of DUI collisions or arrests.

In California, driving under the influence contributed to 791 deaths in 2010. After falling dramatically for five consecutive years, preliminary figures for 2011 indicate an increase in fatalities. Over the course of the past three years, DUI collisions have claimed 10 lives and resulted in 225 injury crashes in Modesto.
