MODESTO — Several hundred graduates will walk the stage as Modesto Junior College holds its 91st commencement ceremony Friday evening.
By the end of the spring semester, MJC will have awarded roughly 1,160 associate's degrees to 965 students. About 400 of the graduates plan to participate in the ceremony.
Addressing the Class of 2013 will be graduating student Alexandre Santos, who will give a speech titled "There is Nothing We Can't Do." He will encourage classmates to continue to pursue their dreams and share firsthand experience in meeting challenges.
Music by the MJC Combined Concert Band under the direction of Erik Maki will highlight the ceremony. The graduation program also will feature the presentation of the 2013 MJC Distinguished Alumni Award to Monica Nino, Stanislaus County chief executive officer.
The commencement will be at 6 p.m. in the stadium on the east campus. A reception for graduates and their guests will be held immediately afterward in the Student Center rotunda. The ceremony and the reception are free and open to the public.
Earlier Friday, graduates and their families and friends are invited to attend the annual graduation luncheon at noon in the Mary Stuart Rogers Student Learning Center on the west campus.
The luncheon will feature graduating student and president of the Associated Students of Modesto Junior College, Kevin Sabo, as the keynote speaker. Tickets are $12 and must be purchased in advance at the Pirates Bookstore on the east campus.
