— A judge on Tuesday scheduled a preliminary hearing June 18 for Modesto City Schools board member Steven Grenbeaux, who is facing a felony assault charge stemming from a confrontation with a Caltrans worker in downtown Modesto.

Grenbeaux appeared in Stanislaus County Superior Court with his new defense attorney, Robert Forkner.

The defendant remains free on his recognizance as he awaits prosecution. The preliminary hearing is estimated to last a few hours.

The incident occurred about 3:20 p.m. April 18, 2012, on L Street between Eighth and Ninth streets.

The Stanislaus County district attorney's office filed a criminal complaint March 4, charging Grenbeaux with assault likely to cause great bodily injury. The complaint alleges that Grenbeaux assaulted Dan Robles.
