MODESTO — Comfy shoes, cozy teas and saucy leisure clothes are on their way to Vintage Faire Mall.
The Modesto mall soon will be home to new retailers Crocs, Teavana and PINK by Victoria's Secret, according to senior marketing manager Janice Curtin.
Teavana, which translates to "Heaven of Tea," offers a variety of teas and the equipment needed to make and enjoy them. Coffee giant Starbucks took over the company in December, but unlike the mall's Starbucks location, Teavana won't sell freshly prepared beverages.
Teavana is expected to open next month on the mall's lower level.
Crocs also is under construction on the lower level, though an opening date for the maker of colorful plastic shoes hasn't yet been set.
PINK, a division of the lingerie retailer, will go into the site now occupied by Baby Gap and Gap Kids, Curtin said. Those stores are moving into the main Gap store. "April 27 is the last day in the old location," Curtin said. "They will have all the Gap lines in the one store."
Curtin said the moves are part of management and mall owner Macerich's effort to take Vintage Faire to "the next level of shopping from what you might see in every mall."
She said the new shops will complement what the mall already has to serve both younger, hip shoppers looking for a deal and the more established shoppers who frequent some of the stores in the mall's Village.
"We really want to have something for everyone," Curtin said.
Speaking of the Village, the stand-alone center in front of the mall proper, another store will be going in there but it's not clear which one. The mall will build out the one remaining space and then seek a tenant.
Readers who posted on The Bee's Facebook page about the mall changes had several suggestions, including a bookstore, Nordstrom department store, a TGI Fridays restaurant and an Old Navy. The last is a popular demand among local shoppers, but Old Navy site selectors prefer spots in open centers with highway frontage, such as the locations the retailer has in Turlock and Manteca.
