CALAVERAS COUNTY — After a bar fight over the weekend, officials said, a husband and wife from Calaveras County were arrested after following home their victims and pointing a gun at them.
The Calaveras County Sheriff's Department gave the following account of what happened: Steven and Jana Scharf were at the Nugget Bar in Murphys just after midnight Saturday when the husband got into a physical fight with another patron.
After the fight, the Scharfs left the bar and waited for the patron, then followed him when he left the bar with three others. The Scharfs followed them to a home in Angels Camp, then returned to their home in Douglas Flat, where they retrieved a handgun and shotgun, then got into a different car and went back to the victims' home in Angels Camp.
Once there, Steven Scharf, 25, armed with the handgun, engaged in a verbal altercation with the four victims, while Jana Scharf, 24, stood by the car holding the shotgun. The altercation came to a head when Steven Scharf pointed a gun at one of the victims. The victim pushed the gun out of her direction and it discharged.
The suspects fled and were found by Angels Camp police at a home in Douglas Flat. Firearms were located and seized from the suspects' car, and they were arrested on suspicion of assault with a firearm and conspiracy to commit a crime.
All involved parties were under the influence of alcohol, officials said.
