ED CRISOSTOMO/ Volunteer Diane Carter, left, 62, shares a laugh with Rachel Gleaves, 56, as she massages her hands at DMC Foundation Miller's Place Adult Day Health Care Center on Wednesday afternoon (11-14-12) in Modesto CA. Diane Carter says this place is God sent I've been help here during my recovery from a stroke. I now volunteer and help here, its my way of giving back.

April 12 was a sad day for Miller's Place, an adult care center through the DMC Foundation. Our representatives chose not to fund Miller's Place. Did they feel it was not worth funding in the budget? Have they ever spent a day there to see all the love and care the clients were getting? It is a wonderful program that the clients look forward to.

They spend time with others and are served small breakfast treats, a nutritional lunch and afternoon snacks. Therapy is also provided, as well as games, crafts and movies. Rather than sitting at home, they are able to socialize.

I have been a volunteer for almost 12 years and I feel like I've lost my second family. Why is it when budget cuts come into play, that senior programs and the needy suffer?
