Portuguese embarrassed by slur

April 22, 2013

Mr. President, please accept our apology for the racial slur ("SJ Valley farmer ousted after Obama racial slur," April 9). I am a California native of Portuguese descent. It took two generations to get us freed from "black Portegees," regardless whether we had red hair or brown hair. The name Borba is Portuguese. We were second-class citizens long enough. Mark Borba, please clean up your act!
