Help Modesto kids with baseball gear

local@modbee.comApril 20, 2013

— Modesto's Red Shield Center is seeking donations to equip the children in its baseball program.

It costs $68 to equip a child from head to toe with new equipment. But $20 will buy cleats, and $26 will buy a glove. Catcher's gear costs $149.

It costs $45 for each child to play in the league. That is about half what other leagues cost. The center offers children in south Modesto a safe place to play, do their homework and take part in other activities.

"Our mission is not to make money, but to provide programs that benefit the community," Salvation Army Lt. Dustin Rowe said.

Checks to help outfit baseball players can be sent to P.O. Box 580480, Modesto 95358.
