The Stanislaus Union School District board selected a superintendent to succeed retiring Superintendent Wayne Brown. Trustees hired Britta Skavdahl, now superintendent of the 1,424-student Pleasant Ridge Union Elementary School District in Grass Valley.
On the Pleasant Ridge website, Skavdahl says her district maintained music, gifted and talented programs, and counseling programs through tough economic times and offers a family resource center, academic intervention academies and is a model for use of technology in instruction.
Test scores are high at the district's middle school and two elementary schools, all of which have been National Blue Ribbon Schools.
Stanislaus Union serves 3,140 students at its five elementary schools and a junior high.
