I have given a lot of thought to the gun control debate. It just comes to this: "Guns don't kill people, people kill people," be it with a gun, knife, rock, club, bare hands or what have you.
We can pass all the laws we want, but in the end, only those that are willing to obey the law will obey it, and those who don't are still with us.
Just read any newspaper or watch any TV news program and you will see that the criminals seem to have all the guns they need despite the existing laws against them.
Any law that makes it harder for a law-abiding citizen to own a gun is just playing into the hands of the criminals; it just makes it easier for them to take whatever they want or to kill whoever they please.
If you were a criminal, would you rather try to steal from someone who has a gun or someone without one?
