Skeletal remains found on Lathrop roadside

— The San Joaquin County Sheriff's Department is investigating the possible discovery of human remains after a man riding his bicycle along a road in Lathrop spotted what looked like a bone.

According to authorities, the man was riding north on South Manthey Road near Dos Reis Road at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday when he saw the bone on the east shoulder of Manthey.

He stopped his bicycle to look and found what appeared to be human skeletal remains. The man called 911.

Sheriff's detectives were called to the scene and have taken over the investigation.

Authorities said a pathologist and anthropologist will examine the remains.
