Shakespeare to be enjoyed under the stars returns this month to the California State University, Stanislaus, amphitheatre.
The university's theater department presents the fourth annual Shakespeare Under the Stars with a free production of "Macbeth."
The Bard's tale of the lust for power will be directed with a post-industrial setting by CSU, Stanislaus, professor Jere O'Donnell and will feature Chicago-based actor Daniel Gately in the title role.
"Surprising visual and audio effects" are promised during the nearly two-hour play, according to a press release.
"We've taken an experimental approach to the presentation of the three witches as 'specters,' " O'Donnell said in the release. "Their effect on the circumstances of the play is a unique interpretation of the modern supernatural taking the Elizabethan mindset and making it more accessible for our audience."
"Macbeth" runs April 30 to May 5 at the amphitheatre, One University Circle, Turlock. Gates open at 6:30 p.m. with pre-show entertainment at 7:30 p.m. The performance begins at sundown.
