Behind bars are 28-year-old Mario Estevan Valdez and 32-year-old Alonzo Ramos.
According to Erica Stuart, public information officer with the Madera County Sheriff's Department, gas started disappearing from the ranch starting on March 31. It took relentless legwork of Ag Crimes Detective Adam McEwen and Deputy Luis Padgett to find the suspects, but Sheriff John Anderson also says the ag community deserves credit as well.
Landowners are not only working closely with the Sheriff's Ag Crimes Unit, but they are also taking initiative, adopting new methods to help keep an eye on their property 24/7.
Both men remain jailed with bail set at $10,000 each. The case remains under investigation.
