Bicyclist killed while riding on Highway 99 is identified

The woman who was struck by a car and killed while riding a bicycle on Highway 99 near Hatch Road was identified Tuesday as 42-year-old Racquel Martinez.

She was riding north in the slow lane at about 12:15 a.m. Monday when she was hit from behind by a Toyota Tacoma traveling at about 65 mph.

There were no lights on Martinez's bike, and the area was poorly lit, according to the California Highway Patrol, which is investigating the collision.
