YCCD TO MEET: The Yosemite Community College District board of trustees will meet at 5:30 p.m. today at the district board room, 2201 Blue Gum Ave. Trustees will see presentations on health services for students and on college scorecards released Tuesday by the state. STANISLAUS UNION TO MEET: The Stanislaus Union School District board will hold a special closed-door session to discuss hiring the district's next superintendent at 6 p.m. Thursday at the district administrative conference room, 2410 Janna Ave. Superintendent Wayne Brown is set to retire June 30.
PROJECT GREEN: The Modesto Junior College Civic Engagement Project Project Green invites the community to join its seventh annual Earth Day celebration from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday on MJC's east campus quad, 435 College Ave. This is an all-ages environmental education event. It will provide many ideas of how to "green" your commute, your garden, your office, your dinner table and your community. There will be plenty of activities for children, including science demonstrations, seed planting and art projects. The event is free, with free parking available in Lot 107 (on Tully Road across from the stadium). Additional parking is available for $1 in student lots. Earth Day is April 22.
CATCHING TROUT: Trout Fest 2013 will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the Moccasin Creek Hatchery, 15300 Highway 49 at Highway 120. Trout Fest is an educational event on the ABCs of trout fishing. California Department of Fish and Wildlife staff and volunteers will instruct participants on how to tie basic fishing knots, rig a pole, cast, handle trout and clean and cook the catch. Other activities will include a river maze, feeding the fish, bean bag toss, trout anatomy and dissection, fish printing and face painting. Kids under 15 can try to catch a fish. LATINOS DOCUMENTARY: The Associated Students of Modesto Junior College will offer a showing of the documentary "Harvest of Empire," the history of U.S. intervention in Latin America and the immigration crisis, at 7 p.m. Friday in Forum 110 on the east campus, 435 College Ave. The film is free, open to the public and will be followed by a discussion with the film's director, Eduardo López. The film is based on the book by journalist Juan González. López is the co-founder of EVS Communications and producer of Línea Directa.
