MODESTO — A "Work Ready for Success!" job fair will be held April 22 from 8 a.m. to noon at the Stanislaus County Office of Education's Peterson Event Center, 720 12th St., Modesto. Here are a few tips to help students prepare:
Plan to spend a couple of hours at the job fair visiting the different companies.
Bring your class schedule with you so you know what times you are available for an interview.
Bring at least 20 copies of your résumé to the fair to hand out.
Be ready for possible on-the-spot application acceptance.
Look presentable and professional when you attend.
Don't be afraid to walk right up to a company representative.
Introduce yourself with confidence.

Writers workshop at Turlock university
A Young Writers Workshop will be held in June at California State University, Stanislaus.
Students entering grades 4 through 9 in Fall 2012 are invited to participate in the Great Valley Writing Project (GVWP) at the university. Experienced consultants with guide students as they share their writing with fellow students, conference with teachers and experiment with a variety of genres and creative techniques.
GVWP was established in 1983 and is a local site of the National Writing Project (NWP), a coordinated effort to improve writing in the United States. NWP sites, located on 200 university and college campuses, serve more than 135,000 participants annually.
The Young Writers Workshop will be from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. June 3-14 at the campus, One University Circle, Turlock. The $250 registration fee includes all class materials, a GVWP t-shirt and an anthology of the students' writing. A family discount is available for two or more students.
