MODESTO — Central Valley Opportunity Center is offering six scholarships of $1,500 each to be awarded to students in Stanislaus County on a competitive basis.
Students must have a minimum GPA of 3.0 with a plan to attend a post-secondary educational institution in the fall. Financial need will be considered. The scholarships also are available in Merced and Mariposa counties, and applications are available at all high schools in the three counties.

Central Valley Opportunity Center, a nonprofit social service agency, has been offering employment training, food and emergency shelter, home weatherization and other services for over 34 years. It offers vocational training in welding, computers and customer service, truck driving and forklifts, and solar panel installation.
Applications for dairy princess
Applications are being accepted for the local District 6 Dairy Princess crown.
The winner will represent the dairy industry in District 6 which includes Alameda, Mariposa, Merced, Monterey, San Benito, San Francisco, San Mateo, Santa Clara, Santa Cruz, Stanislaus and Tuolumne counties as a spokeswoman and also represent the California dairy industry in appearances at schools, fairs, industry meetings, service clubs, parades, and on radio and TV. A week of training will include industry tours, presentations and etiquette training.
1) Be 17-21 years of age
2) Be unmarried
3) Family must own a dairy farm, have resided on a dairy, work for the dairy industry or have a dairy-related background such as involvement in 4-H or FFA. Application deadline is May 3.
The contest is sponsored by the District 6 Dairy Princess Committee and the California Milk Advisory Board. A gala will be held June 1 at Our Lady of the Assumption Hall in Turlock where Dairy Princess Katie Migliazzo of Atwater will relinquish her crown to the winner. Scholarships also will be awarded.

Broncos cheer tryouts and clinic
The Modesto Broncos will hold a clinic and tryouts April 14-21 at the Martin Peterson Event Center, 720 12th St., Modesto, for ages 5-15 (as of July 31).
