LOVE MODESTO, Community-wide service day
DATE: April 27
NEEDED: Volunteers of all ages (depending upon the activity) are invited to take part this year in family-friendly projects in Modesto and throughout Stanislaus County (Love Ceres, Love Waterford, etc.) and the Central Valley. Love Modesto helps those that are disadvantaged, disabled, destitute, elderly or forgotten by creating projects for volunteers to help in a positive and practical way. More than 60 projects offer a variety of opportunities to give food to the hungry, collect toys for foster children, visit seniors, build a home, deliver baked goods and thanks to public servants such as firefighters or police officers, clean a park, donate blood to save lives, and more. Kickoff at rally at 9 a.m. in downtown Modesto in front of the Gallo Center for the Arts on I Street before volunteer groups disperse throughout the city. Love Modesto partners with organizations such as Delta Blood Bank, Inter-Faith Ministries, Habitat for Humanity, The Salvation Army, Society for Handicapped Children and Adults, World Relief, schools and many others. In the past four years, approximately 27,000 people have volunteered to Love Modesto, making Modesto a better place and improving the quality of life for many.
NATIONAL MULTIPLE SCLEROSIS SOCIETY OF NORTHERN CALIFORNIA, Walk A Thon
DATE: April 27
NEEDED: Volunteers 15 years and older to assist with set up and decorations, greeting participants, volunteer registration, breakfast and lunch, traffic control and walker motivation along route, prize distribution, and site breakdown. This event will be held at Downey Park in Modesto, and flexible shifts are available between 7:30 a.m. and 2 p.m. Walk MS invites the community to learn about multiple sclerosis, walk for support and give what you can to make progress for those living with MS. Individuals and teams are invited to collect pledges and walk for a world free of MS. Visit www.walkmsnorcal.org to register.

CENTER FOR HUMAN SERVICES
NEEDED: Volunteers 13 to 17 are needed to serve as defense and prosecution attorneys, jury members, bailiffs and court clerks. The Youth Court process offers first-time juvenile defendants who have admitted responsibility for their offense an opportunity to have their case heard by a jury of their peers with an adult volunteer judge experienced in juvenile law presiding. Adult volunteers 18 and older who are knowledgeable of the law are needed to act as judges to preside over the court and serve as mentors to assist volunteer attorneys with trial preparation.

HAVEN WOMEN'S CENTER OF STANISLAUS COUNTY
NEEDED: Volunteers 18 and older needed to assist victims of domestic violence and sexual assault. Haven provides shelter and support services for women and children affected by domestic violence, assists victims with temporary restraining orders, and provides support and advocacy to survivors of sexual assault. Volunteer opportunities can include trauma response advocacy , shelter and crisis line advocacy, child and youth programs, legal program and staffing prevention information tables. Haven will be conducting a required 80-hour training series for potential volunteers Monday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. April 15 through June 5. Those interested must sign up before Friday. Trainees must be over 18 and pass a fingerprint background check. Spouses, partners, friends and family members must attend separate training series.
