The Turlock High Bulldogs and the Escalon Cougars will meet today in the title game of the 44th Windemuth Spring Break Classic.
It's a Central California Conference (Turlock) vs. Trans-Valley League (Escalon) collision today at 3:30 p.m. at Downey High.
Escalon (8-6-1) will bid for its third Windemuth title since 2009. Turlock (15-1) enters as the tournament's hottest team.
Turlock sealed the finals berth with its third straight win in the Lagos pool, a 7-2 decision Wednesday over Johansen.
Escalon and Pitman both finished 3-0 atop the Vermeulen pool, but the Cougars advanced by allowing only three runs this week compared to Pitman's seven.
The Pride (9-7-1) defeated Downey 8-2 thanks to Brennan Hauser's double and two RBIs and Dakota Spiller's double and two RBIs. Spillers was the winning pitcher. Darion Heltne drove in two runs for the Knights (6-9).
Escalon senior Brent Montgomery pitched a four-hit shutout and struck out eight to lead the Cougars over Beyer 4-0. Catcher Nathan Chunn went 4-for-4 as the heart of the order produced runs.
Gregori's Johnny Alstatt, whose walkoff double capped a 4-run rally in the bottom of the seventh of Tuesday's 8-7 win over McNair, drove in two runs as the Jaguars stopped Central Catholic 4-2.
