CLIMATE CHANGE DISCUSSION: The Modesto Junior College Civic Engagement Project Film and Lecture Series will offer a free showing of the PBS "Frontline" documentary "Climate of Doubt" at 7 p.m. today in Forum 110 on the east campus, 435 College Ave. Following the film will be a discussion with guest speaker Mark McCaffrey from the National Center for Science Education. Campus parking passes are $1 at ticket dispensers in student lots.
STANISLAUS UNION TO MEET: The Stanislaus Union School District board will meet at 8 a.m. Friday and Saturday to conduct closed-door interviews of superintendent candidates. Trustees will meet briefly in open session to receive public comment before going into closed session in Room 11 of the district office, 2410 Janna Ave. Superintendent Wayne Brown is set to retire June 30. SUMMERVILLE TO MEET: The Summerville Union High School board will meet at 5:30 p.m. today at the Summerville High library, 17555 Tuolumne Road, Tuolumne City. Trustees will meet briefly in open session to hear public comment before going into closed session to confer with counsel regarding potential litigation.
AG BUSINESS HELP: Modesto Junior College will host a free Capital Readiness 2013 seminar from 2-4 p.m. today in Founders Hall, Room 155, on the east campus, 435 College Ave. Registration begins at 1:30 p.m. Campus parking passes are $1. Representatives from Modesto Junior College, lending institutions, USDA Rural Development, the California Community Colleges' Workforce & Economic Development, the Business & Entrepreneurship Center Program and the Small Business Development Center will offer information and resources for small and family farms, and small businesses to obtain loans and receive available services. NEW MUSIC STREAM: The Modesto Junior College Department of Music will presents the New Music Concert at 7:30 p.m. Friday in the auditorium on the east campus, 435 College Ave. The concert will be streamed live on MJC Pirates' Radio. To listen in, go to www.mjc.edu/arts and click on the "Pirates' Radio Live Stream" link located on the left side of the page. The program will feature performances of original music compositions by student, faculty and local composers. The New Music Ensemble will perform an original group improvisation. There is no charge for the concert or parking and the event is open to the public. A reception will be held in the Performing Arts Center lobby during intermission and following the performance.
VIEW SKIES AT MJC: The Modesto Junior College Astronomy Club will host Telescope Viewing Night from 8-10 p.m. Friday on the east campus science lawn, 435 College Ave. Bring blankets or chairs. The event is free and all ages are welcome. Refreshments will be available for purchase. Parking will be open and free.
