MODESTO — The Society for Handicapped Children and Adults is holding its annual adapted bike camp this week at Ustach Middle School in Modesto over spring break.
Twenty children are attending this year's camp, where they will ride bikes that have been modified to meet their needs. Their disabilities include mild autism or cerebral palsy and Down syndrome.
The staff consists of adapted physical education teachers from local schools, college students and high school assistants, who work one on one with each child.
The goal is that the children can ride two-wheelers by themselves by the end of the week.
It's too late for others to attend this year's bike camp, but to learn more about next year's camp and other programs for special needs children, call Lynn at the society at (209) 524-3536 or email email@example.com.
