Toddler who fell into Denair spa dies

March 29, 2013

— A toddler who fell into a spa in the back yard of his Denair home Thursday morning has died, authorities said Friday.

Emergency personnel and Stanislaus County sheriff's deputies responded to a 911 call from a home in the 4100 block of Windgate Drive about 11:20 a.m., officials said.

The caller reported that an 18-month-old boy had fallen into the spa, said Sgt. Anthony Bejaran.

The child was not breathing when medical personnel arrived, so they immediately started cardiopulmonary resuscitation.

The boy was taken by ambulance to a Modesto hospital, then taken by helicopter to Children's Hospital Central California in Madera. He died about 4 p.m., Bejaran said Friday.

The Sheriff's Department is investigating the death, which appears to be an accident, Bejaran said. Officials did not release the boy's name.

Bejaran said the toddler was playing with at least one other child when he got out the back door and fell into the spa. His parents found him within a few minutes.
