LOCAL ROUNDUP: Le Grand holds off Waterford in SL softball showdown

March 28, 2013

LE GRAND -- Gia Priddell got the start she was looking for from her Le Grand softball team in Thursday's Southern League showdown.

It was the finish she could have done with out.

The Bulldogs took a comfortable six-run lead into the seventh inning Behind Marissa Belmontes' three doubles and three RBIs, but the Wildcats came storming back.

Waterford had the Le Grand lead down to one with just one out. Starting pitcher Rebecca Nichols, however, recovered to close out the 9-8 victory.

"The umpire wouldn't give us the outside corner, and they were a team that could hit the inside pitch," Priddell said. "They started putting some good swings on the ball in the last inning.

"I freaked out a little bit, but we were able to hold on."

The win makes the Bulldogs (8-2, 6-0 SL) the only remaining undefeated team in the SL and gives them sole possession of first place.
