Perfect God leads imperfect church

March 26, 2013

There is a very interesting story about John XXIII when he became pope. At that time the church was facing many problems, like it always has and always will, and a cardinal said to him: "Don't worry, your holiness, the Holy Spirit will assist you." The pope replied: "No, I will assist the Holy Spirit."

Why did the pope say that? Because the Holy Spirit guides the church. The pope is just the visible head of his church, but the real boss is God. The best proof is that despite all the problems in the Church, it has been around for more than 2,000 years. Jesus said to Peter: "And I say to you, that you are Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hell shall not prevail against it." Jesus always keeps his promises.

If the Catholic Church was just a human institution, it would have been gone a long time ago. The priests are God's assistants and as you would agree with me, sometimes we do a very poor job. Why? Because only God is perfect. My best wishes for Pope Francis.
