MODESTO -- The Modesto City Tournament has finished its 2013 run and in the process set a new city team record.
The Best of the West team set the record and topped the Scratch Team list with a 3,815 score. The previous record of 3,347 was set by The Biggins team back in 2009.
James Brodie paced the "Best" team with his 819 set, closely followed by Nick Kelley's 812 series. Jim Gordin added a 783, which included a 300 game. Terry Daniels finished at a 709, followed by Freddy Irvin's 692 series.
Winning the Men's Team Division was the Misfits team, posting a 3,496 score. Team members and their totals are Jimmy Benner (594), Noel Carraway (632), Scott Eastham (556), John Perez (639) and Justin Saaty (527). The team rolled a 2,948 scratch and added 548 pins handicap.
Placing first in the Mixed Team at a 3,455 was the Party Crashers team. Chris Bonander topped the team scoring with a 660. Mike McGrath added a 625 and Randy Brekke a 618. Shorty Walker (592) and Mary Brekke (491) rounded out the team lineup. The fivesome earned 469 pins handicap.
The Family Ties team won the Women's Team division, tallying a 2,518 score. Teammates include Jackie Wilson, Sherry Kuharich, Fonda Jameson and Claudelle Bonaccinie.
For the Doubles results, in the Men's Division Derek Tull and Richard Camp took the honors. The pair posted a 1,526 score 1,367 scratch and 159 handicap. Tull registered a 697 set and Camp a 670.
Women's Doubles champs are Sharon Zimmerman and Sheri Cole. Zimmerman scored a 621 and Cole 627, plus they added 216 pins handicap for the winning total of 1,464. Bre Sandoval and Ken Thomas claimed the title in the Mixed Doubles. The pair knocked over 1,267 pins and added a handicap of 148 for the top score of 1,415.
Myles Duty rolled an 834 on games of 266-268-300 for the high score in the Men's Singles event. For the Women's Singles, Bonnie Garber posted a 745 on games of 213-266-266 to take the title. The four All-Events winners are Men Scratch, Nick Kelley, 2,331; Men Handicap, Chris Bonander, 2,345; Women Scratch, Allison Jones, 1,980 and Women Handicap, Sheri Cole, 2,011.
This Thursday, the Mixed Kegler No-Tap Trio Tournament is running at McHenry starting at 9:30 a.m. Teams of three can be any combination of adult men and women with a team maximum of 660. Check-in is at 9 a.m. ...

Wayne Garber topped the field in the Scratch 6-Gamer at Yosemite when he finished first in the qualifying and went on to win the sweeper. Garber tallied a plus-308 in qualifying, narrowly edging out Scott Boyle of Salida at a plus-305.
Will Garber qualified third after starting with a 300 game and an 814 series the first three games of qualifying. Nick Kelly qualified fourth and won three matches on the stepladder to face Wayne in the last match. Wayne won the match 238-212 to take the title, $328 and a berth in the year-end Tournament of Champions. Kelley won $240. ...
Claudelle Bonaccinie, Laverne Howe and Betty Gerritsen teamed up to win the Ladies Trio Tournament at McHenry with their 2,271 score. Debbie Couch, Deana Swickard and Cindy James took the second spot after posting a 2,231 team total. ...
